#100 A Murder in Wonderland.

This is my 100th post on Cocktails in Teacups! I’ve been blogging since September now, each month I seem to find time to write more & more, or perhaps i’ve just become better at organising my time? That’s probably it since i’m not blogging this while Little Miss finally takes her nap. She’s going through a phase of thinking she doesn’t need naps during the day.. but believe me, she does. When she reaches the point where she can no longer be bothered to walk and all she wants is to be carried, she needs a blooming nap. I haven’t blogged for the last two days due to having a nasty cold virus, luckily it’s reached the turning point and all I have now is catarrh & a dry skin around my nose from the constant blowing. God, I’m so attractive.. I often wonder why I’m single but there it is!
Anyway, this isn’t a post about Little Miss & her lack of sleeping, or the fact I’m constantly ill, or even the constant search for the answer as to why I’m single. This 100th post is about a murder, a murder in Wonderland actually. Two weeks past Friday I was invited to a Murder Mystery party for Bee of Journeys are my Diary partner’s birthday. Despite having the worst cough in the world I was of course going to go as it meant I got to spend time with my bestie AND it was Alice in Wonderland themed. OF COURSE Bee cast me as Alice. I’ve probably spent the previous 8 years of our friendship harping on about how much I wanted to dress up as Alice for various things but I’ve never had the chance to, until now. Having attended a few Murder Mystery parties last year, I knew I wanted to make a costume from items of clothing I could wear again, although I probably would of found reason to wear an actual Alice costume at some point or another but due to finances I just couldn’t scrape together £30+ for one. So I headed for eBay like any sane person would and this is what I came up with.

Dress (originally Urban Outfitters) £7.95 // Apron £5.99 // Petticoat Borrowed // Tights £2.80 // Hairband £1.69
Shoes & Bracelet My Own
Tom Binns for Disney Couture Silver Key Bracelet
Gift from Bee for my 22nd Birthday
Vivienne Westwood for Melissa Heels
Gift from my Sister Christmas 2011
I was pretty pleased with what I came up with! I didn’t bother with a blonde wig, I decided to go with “If Alice was brunette and shopped in Urban Outfitters”. The dress is really wearable, I’m even considering wearing it to the blogger meet next Saturday. I’m a sucker for a dress with a collar. Everything else was so cheap I’m not too bothered if I don’t wear it again. The apron originally had pink lace around it that I had to pick off so it’s coming apart slightly. The tights are good quality as they’re ballet tights but again so cheap I don’t mind if I only wear them for fancy dress. I could of worn this outfit for the rest of my life. I loved being Alice and I hope someone has a wonderland party or even a Disney party so I can wear it again!
The party itself was awesome. If I’m honest, anything organised by Bee is pretty much guaranteed to be awesome. Three years ago she threw me an Alice in Wonderland themed party and although there was no dressing up she went all out on food & decorations! Some of her other parties i’ve attended were a Halloween party where we dressed up as Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked, she even painted herself green! Last year there as a last minute Gangster one, a pirate one and a space one. She should of been a party planner (or perhaps she was in a past life!) She made a delicious three courses, cheese fondue (YUM), two kinds of pasta and two different desserts.. bread and butter(fly) pudding & creme brulee, obvs I had the creme brulee as it’s my second favourite dessert ever! Everyone made a good effort with costumes, you’ll have to take my word for it as I didn’t include photos as I didn’t have their permission. However I will share some decorations & the fantastic cake Bee made herself!
I’m really looking forward to what Bee has planned for her own birthday next month, she has given me a little sneak update about it and I’m pretty much just as excited as I was for the Wonderland theme. Being an ex drama student I do love any excuse to dress up though but her birthday theme is right up my street! Can’t wait to find out my part & get together my costume!

I thought I’d leave you with a final photo of myself & Peggy, who of course is the Dinah to my Alice. She isn’t a very cuddly cat so she wasn’t at all impressed with having her photo taken. She is the best cat in the world. My nose is massive in this photo though, urgh.

Anyway, have a nice Saturday!
