Anyone who is anyone (well at least if your sense of style is on the slightly quirky side) has heard of ModCloth. ModCloth is an american company that offers a huge range of vintage, retro and down right adorable clothing and accessories. My whole wardrobe would be ModCloth if it wasn’t for the fact that the custom chargers can be a little crazy. So obviously when I was asked to take part in their Uniquely You challenge I jumped at the chance. To take part in the Uniquely You challenge I have to create an outfit around a particular outfit, this week it is the Staple of Your Style dress.
I have to admit, I’m so psyched that it’s a dress! The majority of my wardrobe is made up of pretty dresses and most of them I wear all year around simply by layering up the more summery ones with darker coloured long sleeved tops. As a mother I hardly have the money to have seasonal wardrobes, the only stuff I really pack away is my sandals in the winter and my thick knits in the summer.
The dress itself as I mentioned above is the Staple of Your Style dress that comes in a variety of sizes. It’s a gorgeous tea dress, simple in style but the polka dot print really gives it that cute edge that would really sell it to me. It’s mainly black but the dots are in bold colours, red, yellow, blue and green. They really stand out against the black. I believe it could definitely worn for both an evening out or casual. I’ve gone for the more casual look, as it’s much more “me” what do you think?
I’m notorious for being very matchy matchy with what I’m wearing, usually to the point even my lipstick matches so when I was putting together this outfit I needed to go with items that would really pull the whole things together. If I’m wearing a short sleeve dress, I’m always wearing a cardigan over the top, or a jumper should the dress have a collar. As soon as I saw this A Little Bit Bunny cardigan I knew I was going to have to use it with this dress, mainly because the bunny reminds me of Fifi Lapin and I’m a big Fifi Lapin fan. I also love mustard, it’s one of my favourite a/w colours. Next up, keeping those legs warms. I did um and ahh about going with leggings, but when I chose the shoes I knew it had to be tights. I love me a pair of suspender tights, they add a little bit of tarty-ness to an otherwise conventional outfit. Being single I occasionally like to tart up to help with my self confidence. It goes along side always making sure I wear matching underwear, it just gives me that little bit of confidence that I’m not an ol’ dried up prune. As I mentioned before, the shoes were something I picked early on that dictated some of my other choices for the outfit. I love everything about these Art’s Desire Flat in red. For starters, THEY’RE RED! I love red shoes, and the fact they match in perfectly with the spots on the dress is just a huge bonus! They’re also practical for chasing a toddler around, a vital part of my thought process when i’m putting together an outfit. The things I’d do for a pair of those shoes.. sighhh! When it came to finding a coat to really set off the outfit (because one of my rules for being fashionable in the winter is making the coat part of the outfit, thank you Blair Waldorf) I was instantly sold the minute I saw this Junior Stylist Coat due to the embroidery detailing on it. It’s simply beautiful and the neutral colour goes great with the bright pops of colour in the accessories along with the black of the dress and tights. As the coat has quite a low neck, I looked for something that would really keep me toasty this winter if this was what I was wearing, that’s how I came across this beautiful Chill Out on the Town scarf. The red would really match in with the shoes and dress. And now we come to the accessories. Winter doesn’t have to be all hats and scarfs, it’s also the season of glitz and glamour which is why I’ve gone for this gorgeous When in Rome headband. Finally, apart from my love affair with the shoes, my favourite part of this whole outfit has got to be this Critter-cal Mass fox bag! It’s absolutely adorable, really goes with the outfit and reminds me of the fox on my daughters jumper. When she wears it I always sing “What Does The Fox Say” to her and it really cracks her up. Any accessory that reminds me of her is a winner in my books.
Thank you so much for asking me to take part in this challenge! I have to admit, it was a bigger challenge than I expected putting together this outfit, as I fell in love with so much on the ModCloth website. When I’m in the US next year I’m so tempted to place an order to get delivered to my friends and then bring it home with me. If you haven’t already checked out ModCloth, I suggest you do it now!
How would you have styled this dress?
