I seem to have done a lot of beauty posts recently! I think it’s because I haven’t done a huge amount of much else to give me good blogging material and I have a lot of products I want to talk about. In January I will be going back to my assortment of different posts per week and hopefully start adding more outfit posts to that mix.
Anyway, today is the biggy, the Cocktails in Teacups’ Beauty Awards 2013
! If you didn’t follow my blog back in December 2012 you might of missed my beauty awards last year, but here
is the post if you want a quick catch up (I apologise for the terrible editing and stock photos, all my own images this year people!) This year I will be looking at the same categories as well as a couple of new catagories and sharing some of my favourite products from 2013.
So without further ado, here are my 2013 Beauty Award winners!
Best Overall Make Up Brand… Benefit Cosmetics
were my winners last year too as I’d only really started to get into the brand the tail end of 2012. This year I’ve tried so many different products and I have to say on the whole I’ve loved them all. The reason Benefit are my winners again is mainly because four of my staples are from the brand; They’re Real, the mascara I swear by and will happily fork out for at the drop of a hat, The Porefessional I would feel naked without it, Erase Paste I recommend this to anyone who complains about dark circles under their eyes, it’s a good send and Fine One One, my every day blush, I love how easy it is to contour with it! I’ve also loved Fake Up but I’m currently out of it. I can’t wait to see what they bring out next year and I really hope I’m lucky enough to get invited to another Benefit event, the Fake Up one was awesome!
Best Overall Nail Product.. Maybelline New York Color Show
This is a new category for 2013, Nail Product. This year I’ve really gone overboard with buying nail products so I thought it only right to have a category for them. Maybelline Color Show
are my winners. Ever since they released the dupe for L’Oreal’s speckly polish at half the price (RRP £2.99) I’ve been in love. With a top coat on they can last chip free much longer than a lot of my bigger brand polishes such as Models Own and Essie. They have a great selection of colours and effects too. Boots often have them on 3 for 2 which means three polishes for £6. Can’t really grumble at that.

Best Overall Skincare Brand… Kiehl’s
Ever since my Kiehl’s
skincare consultation back in April, I have been in love with what this brand does for my skin. Before my consultation I have to admit it was a brand that intimidated me. What with it’s basic bottles and fancy wording, I used to feel so lost. Now I wouldn’t hesitate to try any of their products. Over the summer the BB cream was an absolute savior and worked in the way of a tinted moisturiser so I didn’t have to layer foundation on. I’d never used toner in my life but the Ultra Facial Toner recommended to me at my consultation always improves my skin. And the Multi-Corrective cream is a god send of a moisturiser. Worth every penny of it’s price tag. In 2014 I definitely want to incorporate more Kiehl’s into my skincare routine.
Best Suncare.. Apivita Suncare for Sensitive Skin 50+
is a product I first discovered in a goody bag from a meet, the fact the suncare cream had SPF 50+ and “For Sensitive Skin” were major selling points for me. This fantastic non greasy little tube became a life saver for those few hot weeks we had over the summer. I wore in under my BB cream and my face remained tan free, just as I like it. I will be purchasing this again for when I go on my American adventure next year and to wear over the summer. Apivita has definitely been one of my best finds in 2013, can’t wait to try more products by them next year.
Best Lip Balm… Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm
is another brand I have only recently discovered while on my trip to Paris back in October and I picked up this little beauty
for 7.90e in a French Pharmacy on recommendation of Hayley
. It has become a winter saviour, my lips haven’t been half as chapped as they usually at this time of year. I haven’t yet typed a review up yet for it but it’s coming and I will be recommending it. It also smells so good, I find myself having a quick sniff every time I apply it.
Best Body Moisturiser… Soap and Glory’s Smoothie Star
Soap & Glory
is a brand I’d used very little of until last Boxing Day’s sale when I treated myself to a set than contained a bottle of Smoothie Star
. This is without a doubt, my every day moisturiser. Morning or night I tend to use this. It’s just so easy to apply as it has a pump so even when your hands are slick you can easily get more out of the bottle. It smells AMAZING too, so sweet. I swear I smell like a cake after i’ve applied it. So much so I attracted a few nasty horsefly bites over the summer from layering myself in this before walking through the fields to my parents. I cannot go without this product which is why it was a clear winner when it came to this category.
and another Soap and Glory winner is…
Best Shower Product… Soap and Glory’s Rich & Foamous
Rich and Foamous
is the body wash partner of Smoothie Star, so it’s natural that I love this product. It also works brilliantly as bubble bath. Again it smells fantastic, doesn’t irritate my skin no matter how much I apply while showering and again, the whole pump thing just makes application while in the shower so easy! Of all the scents that come with Soap & Glory, this one is by far my favourite I love washing myself in it. Again with this product, I smell like cake, which is always a good thing.
Soap & Glory is also my Brand of the Month this month!
Best Bath Product… Lush Bubble Bars/Ballistics
Despite being last years winner, when it came to picking a winner for 2013, it was a no brainer. I can’t take a bath without some form of Lush
product in the water. I am a long time devote and I think they’ll always be a favourite bath product of mine. I really adore the sweet smelling products like the ones photographed above and I can’t wait to receive some of the Festive products for Christmas next week. It’s such a treat for me to take a bath so I always make sure it’s as decadent as possible. I was also lucky enough to attend a Lush Event this year and I made my own Space Girl! It was so much fun and I have fingers crossed for a similar event in 2014.

Best Hair Care Range… Neal and Wolf
Again, I first discovered Neal and Wolf
through a blogger meet goody bag. Until then I’d never even heard of them but the condition of my hair has definitely improved since they’ve come into my life. The smell of them for starters, you just want your hair to smell like them and Harmony is probably one of the best hair masks I’ve ever used, it leaves my hair so silky and soft. Glow is a handbag staple for nights out as it is like perfume for hair, and it adds a great shiny while taming my horrific fly aways. I feel so lucky to have won a new bottle of it on the Neal and Wolf count down to Christmas. I’ll definitely be trying more Neal and Wolf, I have my eye on the candle…
Best Perfume… Oh Lola! Sunsheer by Marc Jacobs
The winner of this category will always be something by Marc Jacobs for the foreseeable future as that’s all I wear! This year it’s Oh Lola! Sunsheer
, one of the perfumes brought out in the spring with a more summery scent that the originals. I didn’t buy this until the tail end of the summer when it was half price in Boots. Since then it has become my signature scent. It’s my go to every day perfume, so pretty and fresh. I’m so glad I got it when I did. I’m not a huge fan of the original Lola (despite owning it) but this is so much more me. I’m a little bit sad it was limited edition but you can still get it on Fragrance Direct for £39.50.
Best ‘Mummy’ Product… L’Occitane Mom & Baby Cleansing Gel
This year it isn’t a product for Mummy, but it’s one that will be used by mums and it’s my favourite for Little Miss. Little Miss has ezcema which is irritate by perfumed products, which sucks as it means up until April she had very little bubbles or nice products for bath time. I decided to splash out and get her something special to wash her with, this product by L’Occitane
. The woman in the store was so wonderful and helpful, the customer service alone definitely warranted this award. She could tell I was concerned and put my mind at rest by going through the ingredients with me. I can tell you it hasn’t irritated her skin at all and it smells lovely, especially when I wash her hair in it. I really want to give the hydrating lotion a try now!
And that’s my favourite beauty picks from 2013! What are yours? Do you have any recommendations for products I should try in 2013?
