Guest Post // Outfit of the Day

Hello, I’m Kariss of Shy, Strange, and a little bit Manic,  I’ve been friends with Amy for years now (ever since a very drunken and rather embarrassing night out in our first year of university) and she has been kind enough to let me do a guest post on her blog!  She did a guest post on my blog last month about keeping alternative in the office, you can check that out here
One thing I hate is winter (especially after christmas), I can not bare the cold!  It makes me miserable, messes up my skin and hair and it makes everything dark and grey!  It puts me off going out, but when I do I feel like I should make an effort to cheer myself up a bit.  Here is one of my favourite outfits for when I feel up to braving the weather.

Before I get started I’m going to apologise for the state of my hair (it’s in between colours and this is what my usual pink hair fades to) and also for the state of my eyebrows (I’m waiting to get them waxed).  Anyway, I’m in love with this dress! I rushed in to town before christmas on my dinner break looking for something to wear to my first ever christmas party.  My town is mainly populated with charity shops, pound shops and a very messy Primark so I don’t tend to shop here if I can help it, preferring to venture into Sheffield.  It does however have a New Look and this is where I managed to pick this beautiful dress up from.  Even better it was in the pre-christmas sale at just £14.99.  I love the colour, its the perfect shade of green, and the belt pulls in at the waist so its got a vintage feel about it and its really flattering.  It also has some detail at the top that draws attention upwards in a subtle way (anything that takes attention away from my bottom half is a winner with me) The shawl I mentioned in my Cyber Monday post here, its from Kate Clothing and I’m practically in love with it.  It’s such a quick way to instantly make any outfit much more glamorous and special, and its another key item that can add that vintage touch.  I can swan about pretending I’m Dita Von Tease (in my dreams!).  I haven’t mastered how to wear it under a coat yet (it bunches up) and it’s defiantly too cold to go out in just this at the moment, I think it will be perfect for next autumn.  The faux fur is soft and its a simple tie at the front so it fits every size and doesn’t require any unflattering contortions to get it on or off. Onto footwear, these are my go to heels, I have pretty much abandoned all others for these as I can guarantee they’ll be comfortable.  I don’t like risking having to spend most of the night with my shoes in my hands, I’m getting a little old for that.  They were another New Look sale purchase, this time from Christmas 2012 for only £9.99.  I love them as the heal isn’t very high so I can actually walk in them but the tie ribbon at the front makes them more interesting and rather 50s and lets face it, black heels go with everything! Last but not least my tights are from good old Primark, I really can’t knock them when it comes to tights, there cheap and don’t rip strait away, what more do you need.
Finally Make up,  I am wearing Illimasqua skin base foundation in 5.5, Benefit smokey eye pallet, Benefit high beam highlighter, revlon powder blusher in 002, benefit ‘there’re real’ mascara, benefit ‘fake up’ concealer and rimmel lasting finish lipstick on 084 Amethyst Shimmer.

Thank you for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed it, and thanks to Amy of course for letting me take over her blog for a while! If you likes it please check me out on blogloving and over on twitter.

 Kariss xxx
