World Book Day Tag

Today is World Book Day, for anyone who has been living under a rock. I always know World Book Day is coming up for two reasons, one that my mum gives me a pile of left over vouchers as she knows how much I love a new book, and two it’s coming up to my birthday. When I was at school I actually loved it being World Book Day on my birthday because it meant going into school dressed up and I loved nothing more than going to school dressed up. Now as an adult with a child that doesn’t yet attend school, I didn’t really observe it other than taking part in this tag and after taking part in this tag, reading a book in the bath. I look forward to the day when dressing up becomes a big part of the day again, and it’ll be here before I know it.
Anyway, this tag was created by the truly lovely Steph and I’ve been saying on twitter all week that I would be doing it, and what better day than today to take part? Also, I’m so exhausted and I have a sore head due to smacking it off the cupboard. I even have the lump to prove it!
If you’ve also taken part, please link me up so I can have a read. I do love books!
1. If you were stranded on a desert island with one book to last you the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. I read it for the millionth time (I exaggerate, but I’ve read it a lot) at the start of the year and it really hit home how much I love it. If I could only read one book over and over again for the rest of my life, it would be this. I take away something different every time I read it.
2. Which book changed your life?
It wasn’t one book, but seven. Harry Potter changed my life. It introduced me to the world of fandom, and through it I made some wonderful friends. I also grew up with them. I feel proud to be of the Harry Potter generation.

3. What was the first book that made you cry?
Little Women by Louisa M Alcott. I remember reading it on holiday in Florida when I was nine and being terribly heart broken at it. Then I read Good Wives and I was even more upset. Still loved them both though.
4. What was the last book you read that completely baffled you?
Oh, goodness.. I couldn’t tell you! I don’t tend to read books that baffle me, I think I wouldn’t take much away from it if they did. That’s not what I read.
5. What’s your favourite novel?
I really struggle to pick one there, I’ve read so many fantastic ones. I love The Book Thief, The Time Travelers Wife, The Midnight Circus, The Catcher in the Rye, The Help, The Princess Bride, The Luminous Life of Lily Aphrodite, The Book of Lost Things. So yeah, I really couldn’t just pick one!
6. What’s your favourite non-fiction book?
The only non-fiction books I tend to read are travel guides… does that count?
7. Have you ever read a book you loved so much that you refused to watch the film?
No, I haven’t. But I usually hate the movie adaptations or criticize them so much that they only ever get one watch. I do get pretty distraught when they make a bad job of it though.
8. What is your favourite way to read a book?
In the bath, or in bed. Or on a long journey. I like loosing myself in a book so I need to know I won’t be getting disturbed which is hard when you have a small child around!
9. What’s at the top of your ‘to-read’ list?
I really want to make a start on A Song of Ice and Fire series, but I’m trying to psych myself up for it as I know the books are really long and I’m afraid I’ll get bored after a while!
10. Finally: if you were me and you had to dress up as a character for World Book Day, who would you choose?
Oooh, maybe Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, or Wendy from Peter Pan. I’d want to be someone quite iconic.

Did you do anything interesting for World Book Day?
