La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] Review

Warning, I am about to metaphorically shit all over a blogger favourite. This is sadly going to be my first negative(ish) review. But I want to first say that just because this product hasn’t worked for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you, always do your research before investing in a product but I do want to share my experience with La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+].

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] RRP £15.50, Boots
A little while back I asked during one of the #bbloggers chats for a good product to help with my break outs and half a dozen people came back to me praising La Roche Posay’s new [+] version of Effaclar Duo which is formulated for people with sensitive skin in mind. I have sensitive skin that often gets dry on my cheeks and nose if I use harsh products. This product is supposedly perfect for people with skin like me. When I’m hormonal and I get those horrible under the skin spots (gross, I know) which is seemingly something i’ve inherited from my mother. I also often struggle with black heads. Not only that but I have a scattering of scars on my chin and forehead because I suffer from Dermatillomania (thanks Becky!) my make up free face is not a pretty sight! ANYWAY, on reading about this product, it seemed like a dream come true so I hot footed it to Boots and handed over my precious Advantage Card points to buy it, that was back in February now.. and I started using it from the day of purchase. Two months on and I see no difference in my skin, which actually makes me feel quite sad, because it claimed to do such wonderful things;

Based on a unique partnership with dermatologists worldwide and through extensive research, La Roche-Posay introduces new Effaclar Duo[+] anti-blemish cream, specifically formulated to target the key signs of oily, blemish-prone skin.
Proven efficacy on:

  • Clinically proven to correct the appearance of blemishes
  • Unclogs blocked pores
  • Helps to refine skin texture
  • Controls the appearance of shine
  • New – Fights against the appearance of marks.“- Taken from the Boots website
Appearance of blemishes? No, if anything it made my skin feel more oily which resulted in those awful little pimples that I only really get when I over do it on the exercising and tend to sweat more. Unclogs blocked pores? Again, no.. if anything my pores feel more blocked than when I use a simple moisturiser.Skin texture refined? This is one I was incredibly hopeful for, I rely heavily on The Porefessional to ensure my skin appears bump free so I was hoping this miracle cream in a tube would save me the £24.50 a month.. sadly, no. My skin texture is as rubbish as ever. Appearance of shine, is a bit non and void as I don’t have shiny skin.. but the fights against the appearance of marks, I bloody wish! Those scars are still as plain as day.. perhaps my skin is just too damaged for anything to attempt to repair it but for me, Effaclar Duo [+] did not live up to any of it’s bold claims.
However, it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin, which is pretty brilliant for such a product and I did like the packaging as it meant very little of the product was wasted. I also liked the texture, it felt really light and applied well. Those are the three points I’m taking away from this.
I wouldn’t hesitate to try some of the other products by La Roche Posay because of the the fact it didn’t affect my sensitive skin but sadly, Effaclar Duo [+] just wasn’t a wonder product for me.

How did you get on with La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+]?

    I’ve never been fussed about trying this and now I definitely won’t bother! I swear by Quinoderm cream and aloe vera gel for those annoying ‘under-skin’ spots bleh – so annoying! xxx

    Completetly agree, I used to suffer from cystic (under the skin) acne, and have horrible scars and red marks all over my cheeks. After seeing dozens of positive reviews, I bought this, been nearly a month and my scars haven’t faded in the least. It doesn’t affect my skin badly, it basically does nothing. What a waste of my money!
    Also, completely agree with Carly- Quinoderm is a life saver for spots, and aloe vera is really good for spots and helping sooth irritation from quinoderm haha!

    The old formula was so great for me, to the point where if I stopped using it I really noticed the difference in the general condition of my skin. However the new + version doesn’t seem to do much of anything for my skin which is a real shame for an ‘improved’ formula.
