One Adventure Ends, Another Begins; Planning with Amadeus*

I mentioned last night in my Tips for Post Holiday Pampering that one of the best ways to avoid the holiday blues is to book another one! I’m incredibly lucky that I already have another holiday booked with Little Miss for April next year, but for someone who has incredible wanderlust, I’m always on the look out for the cheapest way to have my next adventure.
I’ve mentioned many times that the majority of my spare money goes on travelling, whether it’s just to visit my friends or a big holiday abroad. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke and most of my clothes are second hand, so why the hell not? I have notebooks filled with ways to see the world on a budget. Lists of websites that offer the best deals, and today I’m going to share with you my latest find, a complete gem in flight planing. Amadeus. At the moment there are flights on as the site is still in it’s baby stage, but eventually you’ll be able to add hotels so you can really ensure you’re spending your money on your holiday instead of before!
Lets face it, buying flights are usually the most expensive and stressful part of a trip! I remember when Bee & I were looking at flights to Florida back in June it was such a headache! Well Amadeus takes the headache out of that by doing all the searching for you. Now instead of searching a million websites for the best rate, Amadeus searches 1000s of websites for the best deals for the airports, destinations and dates you want. Once the search is complete it lists the flight prices from lowest to highest which if we’re all honest, that’s what we automatically sort by anyway! Not only that but it shows different prices for other times you could travel, which I always find handy when i’m planning and I don’t have set dates on when I’m going.
Anyway, things I love about Amadeus;
  • The search on the homepage.. unlike other flight search engines you can simply put in “Newcastle to Barcelona after 14/03/2015” and it intelligently searches for you rather than forcing you to put in exact dates. You can also put in activities like “Skiing in December” “European Christmas Markets” and it will find you the best places and prices for your chosen activity.
  • You can create a plan and share it with your friends. I LOVE this feature, it’s great if you’re planning a trip with friends and you want to share your findings. Not just this, but you can share it with everyone, which is a great tool if you’re a travel blogger and you want to share your research posting with your readers. I also love that the plan can be used to inspire and even has beautiful photography to go along with it, just like Pinterest!
  • There is a fantastic page for all the tools you may need help with on your trip including currency, world clock, subway maps, dialing codes. This is great for people who aren’t familiar with travelling and may be nervous about all those things that are different from home.
  • Finally, but probably my most favourite feature, if you want to get away but you don’t know where to go, you can be inspired by other peoples plans

 As well as telling you all about Amadeus, today I’m going to share with you my dream travel plan..

Yes, I would love to go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans! I create this plan as there isn’t one like it on Amadeus yet and I hope I have inspired people who have the money and means to really enjoy the spectical of the festival. In 2015 Mardi Gras is the 17th February, so for a week around about that time I found flights for £545 from Newcastle. Which is a COMPLETE bargain! My flights from London to DC cost that!
Out of morbid curiosity I’ve looked up my flight to Florida and found it for over £200 cheaper! I could cry but it really shows you how much you can save by using Amadeus! I know I’ll be using the website in future when I’m looking for flights.. and although you can’t book with the website direct it does link you out to where you can get the exact flight shown on the site, again saving you all the leg work.

If you’re like me and you always had itchy feet, Amadeus is a must visit for holiday planning, I know I’ll be using it every time I need to look for a flight as I will sleep easy knowing i’ve got the cheapest possible. I also love playing around making plans and seeing that they could actually be realistic with a little bit of saving!
Maybe you’ve enjoyed reading my posts about my American Adventure and you’re thinking about having your own next summer, well now you can start putting those plans into practice. I’m not lying when I say you have to see Niagara Falls at least once in your life, it’s truly breath taking! So what are you waiting for? Go get planning with Amadeus.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
This is a collaboration post.
