As decorating is off the cards for the next year or so due to the fact I’ve gone Disney holiday crazy, so all my funds will be driven towards that I needed to find something else to get my interior design fix, as lets face it, it’s not like anyone else is going to let me loose on their home! Anyway, I was pretty excited to hear about myWebRoom, a website that allows you to design and create a virtual room of your own. On your account you’re able to create multiple rooms, which I have to admit was always one of my favourite things to do on The Sims and you could even go as far as creating themed rooms much like this Game of Thrones one (be honest, it’s a tiny bit awesome, right?)
If I were to describe myWebRoom.com I’d go as far as saying it was very like Pinterest & Polyvore as you can book mark your favourite sites and items to design the room of your dreams, discover new content and even shop! You begin by picking a room, because it’s one of my favourites, lets go back to the Game of Thrones room (who is super excited for this weeks episode?!) ANYWAY, each room has over 300 links and resources, to access these you click on various pieces of decor and furniture to access specially curated bookmark folders that help you find what you’re looking for. When you click on the item in the room, it doesn’t just take you to shopping pages, for example, if you click on the camera in the Game of Thrones room, it will show you some fantastic links to Game of Thrones memes and other equally geeky things. Or you could click on the dresser and it’ll take you to some fashion links, or even better, cosplay inspiration. The room is easy to navigate with arrows either side of the screen and simple x boxes when a new window opens. This is why myWebRoom only works on desktop, it’s not yet mobile friendly.
Then comes the decorating yourself and really making your dream room into a reality. If at first you’re stuck for inspiration, don’t forget to browse the inspired collections. As much as I loved browsing the GoTs room, I knew I’d hit the jackpot when I stumbled upon a Disney inspired collection and I just knew I had to use that as my basis.
I decided on a very basic decor for the room and chose key pieces that make it stand out from the Disney collection. I have chose mainly what is available in the bookmarked files but like with Polyvore you can choose your own items to upload and add into your room. I was so happy to find much Disney, Once Upon a Time and fairytale inspired items readily available which really added to my dream room’s theme. After you’ve finished it you can upload it to the style gallery for everyone to see and who knows, your room may even inspired someone else!
If you want to see in more detail this room or more that I’m in the middle of designing, come be my room mate! MyWebRoom is definitely a website you can end up loosing hours on!
