It’s 2 years this month since I first dyed my hair red. It started off dark red and has gradually become lighter with each dye to the point now it almost looks ginger when the main colour has started to wash out. As of late I haven’t had the money to keep it in tip top shape, and I often go almost 2 months without topping up the dye. I’ve noticed because of this my hair isn’t in the best of conditions and it hasn’t been growing as fast. I love my hair, I’ve spent years getting it to look almost mermaid-like and I hate that it hasn’t been a priority of late, but that is going to change, especially now I have managed to get my hands on Paul Mitchell’ new range; Ultimate Color Repair.
I’m a big advocate of Paul Mitchell hair products. I’ve tried loads of them and I don’t think I’ve had a bad experience yet. I knew straight away I was going to love Ultimate Color Repair. This range boasts a “quinoa color-locking system” that keeps colour vibrant for up to 9 weeks if using the shampoo and conditioner together. It also claims to prevent “thermal damage by 86%” with “88% less breakage” and “59% more shine“. All of these traits are exactly what my hair is needing, especially since I don’t currently have the cash to be splashing out on dye every few weeks. These products are sulphate free which is a must in shampoo and conditioner when your hair is dyed.
The set contains a shampoo, conditioner and a triple rescue thermal protection. All products are travel size making them perfect for holidays.
Ultimate Color Repair Shampoo* RRP £17.95 (for the full size). The first thing you notice with all the products is the smell. I can’t say I’m keen on it and usually I’m someone who doesn’t like to use products with a funny smell. HOWEVER, once lathered on my hair it isn’t as strong or as off putting, and it definitely doesn’t linger once washed out and dry. The consistency is good and a small amount goes a long way so I do feel like my hair has been washed. Using this along with the conditioner has definitely given my hair a post dye shine which I like a lot.
Ultimate Color Repair Conditioner* RRP £17.95 (for the full size). Again, the smell is strange to say the least but because this product applies smoothly to my hair from root to tip I can over look it. When it comes to conditioner the most important thing for me is whether or not a small amount goes a long way. And this does. I can apply it to my roots and use my hands to smooth it right through without needing to apply extra to the tips. This means it lasts almost as long as the shampoo. Used along with the shampoo my hair is noticeably stronger, it’s also a great conditioner for knot free hair making combing while wet easy. I think this has a lot to do with the fact my hair isn’t breaking as much.
Ultimate Color Repair Triple Rescue* RRP £17.95 (for the full size). Triple Rescue is actually a thermal protection spray that offers not just thermal protection but luminous shine and outstanding condition – triple rescue, get it? The bottle itself sprays really well and I feel like my hair is getting a good covering. As I was using both the conditioner and shampoo I had already noticed a difference in how shiny my hair was so I can’t say for certain if this added anymore. However it did work as a great thermal protectant which is so important especially in the summer. I can’t wait to test it against the Florida sun in a couple of months time!
Over all, I’m really impressed with the whole range and I can see myself splashing out on the full size bottles soon. If you want to try the Ultimate Color Repair range for yourself Look Fantastic have this very pack on sale for £21, I cannot recommend it enough.
