Hasn’t summer just been dreadful? However, on Friday we managed to get out for our first picnic of the year. We filled a basket and headed to The Alnwick Gardens. Although it was spitting on rain we weren’t deterred and set up camp on a big patch of grass opposite a beautiful fountain. We weren’t the only family, in fact there were a lot of young families with similar set ups, a picnic blanket and food from home. This is something we do try to do fairly often as it saves so much money and you can take home anything not eaten. This is so important when you have littlies, the amount of money I spent each year on wasted meal in restaurants is ridiculous, but I do love eating out. A picnic is definitely a great middle ground, it gets you out the house but you’re still eating your own food.

Primula offered me the chance of some more of their re-launched dips that I reviewed previously and loved. They came in so handy for the picnic since while sealed they don’t need to be refrigerated so I had no worries having them in the car on the journey and it being warm. They still tasted creamy and fresh when opened and we demolished the sour cream and chive along with the salsa in the hour we sat on the grass. The dips were much tastier than having soggy sandwiches. I think Primula should go into making snack packs, I think they’d be great for lunchtimes and I know Little Miss would be a huge fan.

I’m really hoping this isn’t our only picnic of the year as it was so much fun, passed a few hours and it was nice to get out doors. Little Miss definitely enjoyed it and has already asked twice when we’ll be having another one. There are so many places in the North East that are great for picnicking that makes me feel lucky for living here.
