Travel Content // Where To Spend Your Winter Holidays This Year*

As a mum, holidays are always an important time no matter what season. Obviously, my family loves going away during the summer and that is when most parents feel they have to keep their children occupied. The six week holidays are a long time, so if we don’t get away and make it special, I feel like I am letting my daughter down. The same goes for the winter holidays.  During the autumn and winter months, my daughter gets up to four weeks from school and I don’t want her to stay cooped up at home.

I know most people don’t agree, but by the end of this post I hope they do! To try and convince you, I have put together a list of why it is important to get away from home for the winter.

The winter is not as popular as the summer. Although the weather at homes gets as hot as some places in Europe, everyone feels they have to jet off to exotic climates. The only problem is cost. A lot of kids don’t get the experience of having a holiday abroad because it is too expensive. There is nothing to apologise for if that is the case, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still have the experience.  By picking the winter, you will cut your outgoings in half and the kids will get their yearly holiday. Plus, the weather should still be hot, depending on which country you choose.

Makes Everyone Happy
Seriously, there is a disorder called SAD that affects people’s’ moods. The cold weather and a lack of sun can make you depressed. What’s the best way to combat this? Go away to somewhere sunny for a couple of weeks in the winter. Okay, you might not suffer from SAD, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get away from home in the winter. Waiting a full year for another holiday is a nightmare. At times, you just want to get away from the monotony of life. A winter holiday breaks up what can be a suffocating and predictable cycle.

There are only certain things you can do in the winter and the colder months, like skiing. Yes, you can do them at home, but there is nothing better than a skiing holiday in the Arctic Circle. The snow is thicker; the surroundings are more glamorous and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a lot of families. Winter snow activity breaks are always better in beautiful locations like Norway or New Zealand. If, like me, you want your kids to have life changing experiences, this is one of them.

Any break has the same effect: it refreshes your mind and body. That sounds like some new age crap, but it is true! Life at home can start to affect negatively your frame of mind, which is why you need regular breaks throughout the year. The kids have holidays during the winter, so the winter is the perfect time to take the edge off and have a vacation.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a good enough excuse!
