Things I’m Looking Forward to in Autumn*

Autumn has become the favourite season among bloggers, and I’m not different, mainly because it sees the end of the season of hayfever! Spring is my absolute favourite season, but I do love when the first of September hits as that’s when I consider Autumn to be beginning. Enjoyment wise, I’d say Autumn is my favourite because there is just so much I look forward towards the end of the year and since I’m about to spend 11 days of my Autumn in 80 degrees heat I’ve decided to share what I’m most looking forward to about Autumn in this country.

Pumpkin Spice Everything
Yes, I am one of those people. I love pumpkin spice. I love all the pumpkin spice products, I love the taste, I love the smell of pumpkin spice candles and most of all, I love pumpkin spice lattes. Although, it’s not just the PSL I love, I love vanilla spice, salted caramel, cinnamon and raisin and all the other amazing smells that go along with the season. It’s hard to come by this sort of stuff in the UK (although it is getting easier) so I’m looking forward to getting my fill of seasonal foods will in the states, and I may even pop into Bath and Body Works.

Things I'm Looking Forward to in Autumn Dark Mornings

Dark Nights
This is probably one that people will frown reading. I can’t wait for the dark nights, when I shut my curtains at 5pm and burn candles while curled up under a blanket. Firstly, it means that it’s easier to convince LM it’s bedtime.. and she sleeps for longer. And secondly, it’s not as weird that I don’t go out in the evening because very few people do! But don’t worry, there is still loads you can do indoors (trust me, I do it all year around).. why not pick up a new hobby like going granny chic and knitting, or try and get down your unread pile, or try a bit of online gaming, check this site out. I like to bake in the evening as it’s a great way to fill my home with a warming smell that lingers until morning.

Christmas Shopping
Yes, I’m brandishing the c word around early this year! One of my favourite things about Autumn is Christmas shopping! I love seeing the stores get their stock in, and the decorations up and playing the music. Everyone in my hometown always seems to be in a good mood for once. It’s a magical time of year. I won’t lie… I’ve already started shopping as I find the end of season summer sales a great time to pick up and few bits but I definitely do the bulk of it in October and November. This year will be fun since LM knows exactly what she’s asking Santa Claus for, then I have to try and get it at a good price!

Autumnal Colours in Fashion
Although, I would say Spring is my ultimate season (mainly because it’s my birthday) as far as fashion is concerned I much prefer Autumn. I love being able to cover up all the parts of my body I hate. I love tights and layering, hats and scarfs but what I love most of all, is the colours! I love mustard, navy, bottle green, plum, dark pink, burnt orange, chocolate bring. There is just something comforting about these colours and they actually suit me. Being so pale means that pastel often washes me out. Also, purple lipstick, need I say more?

Knit Wear
Another thing I love about Autumn fashion is knitted everything. I love knitted tights, knitted hats, knitted scarves and most of all, chunky knit jumpers and cardigans. I also love seeing LM all layered up in knitwear. As I’m trying to go handmade with her wardrobe I’m trying to source some old school hand knitted sweaters for her!

Halloween, especially Disney Halloween
Being a mother, Halloween is something I actually consider now. I went off it for a while (well apart from the Mean Girls style dressing up and going clubbing). But now we can enjoy Halloween kid movies together like Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus and the special Mickey Mouse Club House editions. I also get on the Halloween baking. Little Miss dresses up and sometimes I even attend a Halloween party thrown by my best friend Bee. These year we get the added fun of being in Disneyland. LM gets to trick or treating in California, we get to dress up and attend a party. Then of course the special Halloween snacks and character meets! I can’t wait!

Frosty Mornings
I’m allowed to say I love frosty mornings because I have to walk my daughter to school in the morning. But I do love opening my curtains and seeing everything white with a light frost. I especially love seeing all the autumn leaves red and gold and white. It also makes the air feel so fresh and of course kills all the germs, something we desperately need now that everyone is sick with those pesky back to school colds! I for one would welcome a frost right now as I’m so done with this cold!

Not Shaving Your Legs All the Time
Last one, but possibly the one I’m most excited about. I’m sorry guys, but I HATE shaving my legs, in fact, I hate removing hair from them at all. I only wax before I go on holiday so I don’t have to worry about keeping on top of hair removal, aside from that, the idea of shaving more than once every 2/3 weeks annoys me. I like wearing tights and leggings in the winter to hide my hairy sin. No body needs to know and it’s definitely one of the plus points to being single.
