Cosplay for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2015*

One of the highlights of our most recent trip to Walt Disney World was that for the first time ever I got to experience Halloween at Disney, including one of the famous Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parties. In case you’re unaware, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (or MNSSHP) is a hard ticket event over the Halloween period at Magic Kingdom. Hard ticketed means you need to buy an additional ticket to your park pass, but believe m when I say it’s worth every penny! I was so incredibly excited about it, having already watched the parade “Boo to You” 100 times before flying out but I had managed to stay away from videos of the brand new Hocus Pocus show. I didn’t want to see anything about it until I saw it for myself (however now I’ve watched it a few times online since Little Miss had slept through it and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.. now she claims she likes “baddies” although I’m unsure how true that is).

But the thing I was most excited about was the fact adults can dress up to attend, dressing up in Disney World? Yes please! I of course saw this as a prime opportunity to cosplay and as soon as my flights were booked I was planning what to wear. I knew straight away I wanted to go matching in some way with Little Miss and after a little convincing from my best friend Bee, I decided we’d go as Tinkerbell and Wendy. Little Miss always plays in the parks as Wendy, and I do get a little jealous as I loved Peter Pan long before she was born. I always wanted to be Wendy growing up and finally I was going to get my chance. After I announced my decision, the friends we were attending with decided to do a whole Neverland group! It was such fun! I honestly regret not taking as many photos, but trying to round up four under 5s who were all up past their bedtime made handling a camera rather difficult. So instead I’ve waited until we arrived home to take photos and share our outfits.

I went for the style of dress that is worn by Wendy in the daily castle show Dream Along with Mickey. Ever since watching it for the first time back in April, both Little Miss and I have become obsessed with her dress. LM has her own version and this is mine. Since Bee has launched her own online store Closet Geek, she made it for me and it’s actually as near to perfect as you could ever get. She spent ages sourcing the material (that did actually cost a fortune to ship in from abroad) but it was worth it. We had a total panic that it wasn’t going to fit as the pattern was old and we thought it wasn’t going to be big enough to fit me, however I think I’m thinner than I though as it fitted perfectly and I actually felt like I looked good in it. I cannot put into words how much I adore it, and it’s definitely my favourite cosplay dress so far. The bow I made myself, and it’s the only bow I ever plan on making as I was completely stressed out making it. The wig however was also a big splurge, but as I knew I do want to cosplay Wendy again in the future (I want her original movie dress too) it felt like a good investment. It came from the etsy seller, Whimsical World of Wigs that I actually found through Instagram. The service was second to none! I bought a quick ticket first and then when I’d saved up enough to pay off the balance it was ready to ship to my hotel within 2 weeks. It’s perfect and so comfy to wear. I honestly love it so much that as a reward when I reach my target weight, I plan on buying Scarlett.

I’ve already talked about Little Miss’ outfit in my third Little Miss Cosplays post. We’re both so blessed to know people who make such fab outfits.

We had such fun, I’m sure I’ll blog in more detail about the party itself, but it’s hard as I really didn’t take many Halloween photos. However, one of my friends Emily posted some tips about making the most of MNSSHP with a toddler but it also applies to anyone in attending, most of it anyway! I’ll be back next October where I hope to attend twice over the two weeks we’re there, which of course means two outfits for both Little Miss and I. I do have a few ideas, one I’m really excited about but hopefully I’ll be attending more conventions between now and then which of course gives me other reasons to dress up without being at Disney.
