Over the years I have bought some really great gifts for people but off the top of my head I can’t remember them. My mum has always said I excel myself with gift giving because I always put a lot of though and effort into what I’m going to get for people and the reason behind it. It’s so hard to remember what you’ve bought someone when you’re not the one looking at it every day. Most recently I splashed out and gifted my best friend Bee the Mrs Potts & Chip set she has been after the whole time I’ve known her (11 years!) yet no one had ever bought it for her. I really hope she loves it as much as I thought she would in my head!
This year is my forth Christmas single, and I’m not ashamed to say I do often splash out and treat myself to something extravagant each year and today I thought I’d share my 3 most expensive buys for myself ever, because they did all happen to be around this time of year!
Three years past May my ex smashed up the laptop that my parents had bought me in a fit of rage. It was unfixable and as my ex had been the one to destroy it wasn’t covered by my insurance as it wasn’t classed as accidental damage. I hopped between using my bestie’s spare and my mum’s but it wasn’t the same as owning me own. I had a seasonal job over the Christmas period and I had a bit of money saved up, so I decided to treat myself to a laptop. It was the first one I’d ever paid out by myself and it felt like quite the accomplishment (my Grandad bought my one to take to uni, an ex bought my Macbook, then my parents bought me one when my laptop broke). I recently had to go without it for a week when the fan broke, but thankfully my insurance did cover that and now it’s running like brand new! Definitely a great purchase!
Two years ago I went for a SLR camera as my gift for surviving the worst year of my life 2013 was hell and I felt like i’d earned something nice at the end of it all. I’d ALWAYS wanted a fancy camera and I found one for a great deal on Amazon (since they always have them over Christmas). Sadly it didn’t arrive until the week after but still, it was a present to myself that cost a lot of money. With 2 Disneyland Paris trips, 2 Walt Disney World trips and an adventure around the East Coast of the USA under my belt since, and some fantastic photos to go with it I feel like it was definitely money well spent. I’m hoping eventually I can invest in some more kit so I can continue to work on improving my photography.
Finally, this Christmas.. flights to Orlando
A couple of weeks back when I was in the midst of changing my anxiety meds I decided to splash out on flights to Orlando for the Spring. We have a trip booked and pretty much paid for for next October but that was too long to wait and I have some great friends who were throwing a bed at LM and I so we could have a cheap trip in the Spring. This will be the first trip I’m paying for 100% myself so it means over the next few months I will be Miss Tight Pockets but I know it’ll be worth it when I’m back playing in the kingdom. And believe me, seeing LM run back into Peter Pan’s arms will be the best gift I could ever give myself. That smile when she sees him is priceless.
Currys have put together a fab infographic of the top 10 best gifts ever given which makes for a good read! If someone fancies giving me a Greek Island for Christmas I’d be totally down with that!
