Fun Things To Do With Younger Children*

There are a lot of things that I have learnt since becoming a mother. There are two things that stand out to me, though. One is patience and knowing that one little person is completely dependent on me. It can be quite an overwhelming thought when I say it like that!

The other thing that stands out to me is that time flies. It zooms by and I can hardly believe it. It doesn’t feel like long ago that I was pregnant, buying all sorts from the baby store and then bringing home my new baby. For a little bit of a sentimental post, I just thought I would share a few things to make the most of your little one’s childhood. Here are some fun things to do together, when you have a baby and toddler.

One important thing to note with kids is that they don’t care what the weather is doing. So make sure you all have some great waterproofs and wellington boots! Get out and about whatever the weather and explore. Some great things to do are:

Feeding Ducks
This can be a lot of fun. Have a look for a little duck pond or river close to where you are. Have a walk over and visit the ducks. It is fun if there are a lot of ducks and they surround you! Random fact for you, though, bread isn’t the best thing for ducks. Think about taking them some oats instead.

Splash in Puddles
I think Peppa Pig has got a lot to answer for; everyone loves splashing in muddy puddles. Make sure everyone has thick socks and wellies on and it will be all good.

Build Snowmen
If you get some snow, don’t hibernate! Get outside and build a snowman. If you have little ‘Frozen’ fans, then I’m sure they will be dragging you outside asking you ‘do you want to build a snowman’?

Go Sledging
This again depends on the weather but it is such fun. I have fond memories of doing this with my family when I was younger.

Hunt for Mini-Beasts
If you don’t have a garden, head to a local woodland or park and hunt for mini-beasts. Turn over rocks or stones and see what you can find. A great way to find worms is to stamp on the ground. This gives them the impression of it raining and means they’re more likely to come to the surface. At least, that’s what I’ve been told. I’ve found that it works, though!

Fly a Kite
Have you got a field or park that you can go to? Make sure it is a windy enough day and fly a kite. As simple as that. You could even make one together to take. Do you see what I mean about children not caring what the weather is doing?

Grow Flowers
A lovely thing to do together is to all plant a sunflower. The children will enjoy watering their plant and then watching it grow. It can even turn into a little bit of a competition and see whose grows the fastest.

What are some of your favourite things to do with your children?
