The Theme

It is important to know the interest of your child before starting to change the room. What kind of hobby do they prefer? Are they into sports, music or art? These are the basic things to keep in mind. Knowing the interest of the person will help you center in on the kind of setting for the bedroom. Thus, you know which colors, details and even the furniture to pick.

The Colour

Most teenage girls go for pinks and soft feminine colours while boys prefer bold, masculine tones. A white, blue and beige bedroom looks crisp, clean, and fun. Pastel shades like pink and coral will effectively make for a soft girly ambience. You can pair neutral shades to tone down bold colours to come up with striking and powerful colour combinations that will not only be appreciated by your teenager but will also ensure an ideal environment for his growth and development.

The Furniture

The kind of furniture you choose should be completely functional but also add to improve the design of the bedroom. Considering the space, use furniture that will not cramp up the area but will allow for doing studies and homework or to comfortably accommodate socializing needs. Beanbags are a great way to create a comfy hang area, for my pre-teen we love Big Bertha which has a great selection of size and colours to go with any room. My daughter has her eye on the High Back Bean Bag chair at the moment because the aegean blue is such a lovely colour and will look perfect in her bedroom. It’s the perfect size for her now and to grow into. I also love that it has a foot stool option!

Beds and mattresses should be of the perfect size and should be comfortable to provide good rest. Closets and drawers are also necessary for easy storage.

The Lighting

A room that receives ample sunlight not only helps in a healthier growth, but also creates an environment that is fresh, light, and clean. You can position the bed near the window so your child can take advantage of morning light and the views. On the other hand, artificial lighting plays important role in how the bedroom looks at night. Avoid harsh lights but opt for soft ones that will accent the patterns and colours of the interior. Nevertheless, a good study lamp is necessary for days when your child stays up late for school work.

The Details

Details amplify the character of the room. As such, it is important to carefully choose them. You can repeat similar patterns and colours to achieve a cohesive décor. Match the colour of the wallpaper or paint with other features of the room to achieve a smooth and continuous flow. Work with your teenager in choosing the accessories he prefers as it is vital that he likes them. You can hang artworks or bold patterns to create a focal point in the room.
