Tips for Leading a Healthier Life*

I’m off to Florida in just over 4 months so I’m starting to think about how I can get myself feeling healthier which should hopefully result in me losing some weight. I wouldn’t say I’m huge, I seem to be keeping a very standard weight and dress size these days but I would love to be a little smaller before I spend two more weeks in the US. Today I’m sharing some general tips for leading a more healthy lifestyle that could be applied to a lot of different people and their walks of life.

Cook from Scratch
One of the best ways to lead a heathy lifestyle is keep an eye what foods you put into your body. I’m a really lazy person when it comes to food as Little Miss often eats at my mum’s while i’m working so I live on cuppa soup and noodles. However I know from experience that I lose weight faster when I cook from scratch. It does seem to be more expensive but if you chose to shop locally or in a store like Morrisons that allows you to buy individual fruit and veg rather than in packs I find it much cheaper and nothing goes out of date before I use it. There are so many 10 minute or 3 ingredient recipes scattered all over the internet these days there really is not excuse.

Switch to Vape
Apparantly one of the healthiest things you can do if you’re a smoker (aside from quitting of course, but I know that’s really not easy) is switch to the trend of e-cigarettes. It smells nicer, is much cheaper in the long run and you can even vape in bars, so no need to go out and freeze your butt off (why wasn’t this around when I was a smoker in my younger years haha). There are some wonderful modern and stylish online stores where you can pick up supplies and e cig tanks vapelux at a great price.

Walk instead of Driving
I’m not a driver but that doesn’t mean I don’t spend a lot more time in cars than I should. Whenever I can I will try and get my mum, sister or boyfriend to give me a lift rather than sucking it up and walking. As someone who cannot afford the gym or find the time to tke up running, walking is my only form of exercise and I really need to embrace it more. If you’re going somewhere that is within walking distance, leave the car, embrace your legs.

Give Up Coffee/Alcohol
I’m not saying give up both.. are you crazy?! I usually need one to combat the withdrawls from the other haha. But giving up at least one will be so beneficial to your health. I have given up both on separate occasions and I have noticed a huge difference because with coffee it means I’m drinking less milk and with alcohol, I don’t have those horrible hangovers (not to mention the money I’ve saved!)

Get More Sleep
Final point, and probably the easiest to achieve and one of the healthiest things you can do, get some more sleep. As an insomniac I really struggle with this and on the nights I get as little as two hours sleep I can honestly say I’m a total mess. I can’t think straight, I’m moody and I feel sick all day. I have definitely tried a lot of ways to get a better nights sleep (including medicating myself) and I find a relaxing bath and fresh pjs to be the most affective. If you can even fit in an extra an hour a night you’ll definitely see the benefits of this.
