My Geek Box Kids Little Princess Subscription Box Review June 2016

It’s been a while since I’ve ordered a subscription box of any kind but as I thought I was going away at the weekend I decided to take advantage of the Facebook discount for a My Geek Box Kids subsciption box. Using the discount I could get it for £9.99 with free postage which seemed like a bargain. I thought she’d like the surprise element of a subscripton box rather than just buying her a gift (although she’ll be getting Tsum Tsums tomorrow!) And I was right, her little face lit up when she opened it (there are photos at the bottom, enjoy!)

I ordered it on Friday and it arrived Monday morning. It was dispatched first class signed for on Saturday and if it hadn’t been the weekend I’m sure it would have arrived Sunday which is excellent service. Not only that but I got a text Monday morning asking if I would be in for it to be delivered. This isn’t something I’ve had before and I think it was great with it being in such a large box and my neighbour is elderly who really doesn’t like to take in parcels for me.

I went upstairs and opened it first. As I ordered it knowing full well it was recommended for children aged 5-11 and I wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything in it that I wouldn’t want Little Miss to have. However I didn’t need to be worried about that. The website describes it as a mystery box with a selection of fun and educational goodies designed to excite, thrill and engaged your child, but what sold me the most was the fact it would feature items from popular francises. As you can chose either a girl box or a boy box (and I obviously went for girl as I know my kid) I knew there was going to be things in she would really love, and it honestly didn’t disappoint!

The box came with eight items in it, which even for the £20 would make it good value for money. Four of those eight are named brands and after having a quick browse on Amazon I can see that the boxes total value is around the £35 mark, the My Little Pony alone is almost £15, the Barbie Megabloks also around the £10 mark! I knew as soon as I saw the My Little Pony Little Miss would be completely overjoyed so that alone made the box worth it for us. Before even giving it to her I called her three favourite items, the Scribble Me Rainbow Dash, the Mega Bloks and the Colour Alive Crayola set. And i was right, but she also took a shine to the Mosaikit because it was one with a cat on. The other items she seemed interested in but I know probably she wouldn’t even look at in the long run. She’s already well over the Dora the Explore stage, the elasticated bracelet really isn’t her, the emoji keyring again seems really pointless for a child and although I’m sure we’ll use the Trio colour pen when we’re being creative she won’t ask for it, it’ll be more because it’s in her art case.

The contents really are great value for money. All brand new toys. I think the great thing about this sort of subscription box (unlike the beauty ones I’ve had before) is it doesn’t matter if the items are no longer for sale in stores, a toy is a toy and your kid is going to be happy with it if it’s something they’re into. I was a little disappointed as the photos of the website showed a lot of Disney which would have been an absolute winner with Little Miss and we didn’t get anything Disney, however since My Little Pony is LM’s favourite thing at the moment, it ended up not mattering after all. My only other gripe was the box is supposed to be for ages 5-11 but I really don’t think a child older than 7 would get much enjoyment from it. I’d definitely put the age range at 3-7. Little Miss is four and as I mentioned above, Dora really is no longer something she enjoys as it’s just a tad too young.

I’m unsure when the next one is released but I feel like I will be ordering it as a nice treat when Little Miss finishes pre-school for the summer and forever as she’s moving up to primary school (eek!) She loved opening it so much and seeing such a lovely selection of brightly coloured gifts that were perfect for her. I can’t remember the last time I felt as though that was a £9.99 well spent!
