My Geek Box Kids Little Princess Subscription Box Review July 2016

Last week I had a bit of a surprise when I opened the door to the mail man and he was standing with another My Geek Box for Little Miss! I hadn’t ordered a second but I loved that we got one anyway and it came perfectly timed with her last day at pre-school making it a fab treat!

When I had a peak inside (as at first I wasn’t sure which My Geek Box it was as they do a selection) just to make sure it was the My Geek Box Kids Little Princess subsciption box* as that would be the one most appealing to Little Miss, and much to my excitement, it was! So as soon as we had a day of brilliant behavior, I gave it to her to celebrate the end of school.

As I mentioned in my review of the June box, with the My Geek Box Kids you can choose between the Little Princess box or the Little Hero box. Although I don’t personally believe toys are for a specific gender, I do know for a fact my kid would be more interested in things like My Little Pony, Princess, furry animals etc rather than super heroes, sports, generic Lego which is why I do like the fact you have the choice of a box where I know I’m going to get something Little Miss would like. And once again it came through and over half of the items in the box were absolutely perfect for Little Miss.

I should add a note that subscription boxes really are the lucky of the draw, you have no idea what you’re going to get until they arrive on your doorstep. This is the same right across the board whether it be a beauty box, a stationary box or a geeky box and this is the reason I stopped ordering a beauty boxes as I couldn’t use half the products due to my sensitive skin. Whenever I do order a subscription box there is this as the back of my mind that I might not like or use what arrives, but for me the element of not knowing what you’re getting is part of the excitement!

So, a close up of what she did get in her July box!

Out of the seven items she received this month, she loved four of the items, one she wasn’t fussed about and two were no good as they weren’t of an interest to her, and she probably isn’t quite old enough to really understand how they work. The box is aimed at kids 5-11, Little Miss isn’t quite five and I would say that some of items in both the June and July box were definitely aimed at kids younger. I do personally think that there should be another divide, a 3-6 box and a 7-11 as 5-11 is such a huge difference in age not by years, but by interest. Kids at a 11 have completely different likes and interests to kids at 5! It can make the boxes really hit or miss depending on the child.

Anyway, the stuff she really loved ended up being great value for money. Not as much as the June box, as the Rainbow Dash My Little Pony is now in the Argos book for £19.99 alone! However, you definitely get your monies worth with the July box as well. There was another My Little Pony item in the box this time (yay, as she’s still obsessed!) This time it was a My Little Pony Cupcake Keepsake by Funko, the particular one she received, Fluttershy, is actually £11.99 on Amazon. She also loved her Littlest Petshop toy as it was a cat (her favourite animal) and she’s a huge fan of any small figures she can carry around in a bag, from what I can see this retails for around £6.99 however I can’t find the particular one she got. The next thing she loved was the night light and star projector which ended up being a complete godsend as her night light broke recently and using a lamp is costing me a fortune in electricity bills. She got a pink one, her favourite colour and the stars it projects on the ceiling are actually really quite cute. It costs £5.99. Those 3 items alone put you over the £19.99 cost of the box! The final thing she really loved (although mummy not so keen as she’s not a fan of the show) was a cuter than usual Sponge Bob TY Pluffie, that retails for £4.99. She loves him as he is quite cute and he’s incredibly soft. These 4 items alone made the box a winner for us.

The 3 items she wasn’t so keen on were a Blazing Teens 4 yoyo set, which with teen in the name I can’t see it appealing to anyone under the age of 10. It came with a yoyo glove as well. I don’t have much to say on this except it’ll end up on eBay if it’s lucky on in a charity bag if not so. The other item was an Adventure Time comic. Little Miss isn’t quite at a comic age, nor is she into Adventure Time, so she had a flick through before discarding it with the yoyo. Despite these items, I’d still say the box was a success.

Again, I was a little disappointed at no Disney in the box like shown in the advertisement photo, but over all great value for money and despite the recommended age, she liked over half the box and will get pleasure from it! The night light was a wonderful edition this month as it wasn’t a toy but it was still something she could enjoyment from. I definitely wouldn’t go past the My Geek Box Kids if I wanted a surprise for Little Miss, we were definitely blessed to get an extra one this month and I’m sure she’ll find entertainment from her favourite things throughout the summer.

Great post 🙂 It was lovely to see photos of your daughter opening the box too; she looks so happy with the Spongebob plushie! I’ve ordered this box before as a present for my niece’s 8th birthday and tbh there were not a lot of great items it in, maybe 2 that she would like, but luckily I forgot to cancel my subscription (which I apparently do a lot, oops! haha) and the next month I received the June box, which was much better! My niece loved the Mega Blocks barbie doll figure best! We also received the July box (again, my fault!) and although there’s some lovely items inside, there is a lot that my nieces wouldn’t enjoy.

I love these subscription boxes, however I’ve found there’s quite a few items that I don’t think fit into the theme of the box, such as the Blazing Teens 4 stuff, and I definitely agree that they should separate the boxes to 3-6 and 7-11 🙂 Overall, it’s a great box and my other niece now wants one too for her birthday! 😀
