If you read my blog, you probably know that I often refer to cosplay. If you are not familiar with what cosplay actually is, it is a contraction of the words costume and play, and refers to a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. Although my daughter and I typically prefer Disney characters, popular cosplay sources include manga and anime, comic books and cartoons, video games, and live-action films and television series.
Today, many cosplayers strive to earn a living by being hired to play a certain character at tradeshows, red carpet events and promotional parties. Among this group of professional cosplayers, plastic surgery is becoming a popular choice as it helps them alter their appearance to look more like a specific character.
Here is a list of popular plastic surgery procedures in the world of cosplay:
Facial Fillers and Injections -Facial fillers are products such as collagen, hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyl apatite that rejuvenate facial skin by reducing or eliminating wrinkles, raising scar depressions, enhancing lips and replacing soft-tissue volume loss through facial injections. These are typically quick procedures that can offer precise contouring to help the patient achieve a perfected look.
Nose Surgery –The nose is the central feature of the face, so when the nose if “off,” it can detract from your aesthetic goals. Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty or a “nose job,” is an extremely delicate procedure which involves altering the cartilage and bone structure of the nose to create a final result that is in harmony with the rest of the facial features.
Tummy Tuck– Even those who follow the strictest diet and exercise routines can find it difficult to shed those extra pounds and achieve a flattering waistline. For many of those people an abdominoplasty, also known as a Scottsdale tummy tuck is the answer. Tummy tuck surgery is a comprehensive procedure which removes excess fat and skin from the abdominal area, as well as tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall.
Breasts Surgery-Although most people typically associate breast surgery with breast implants, there are a number of breast enhancement procedures that can help a woman obtain the look they desire. Breast augmentation, breast lift and breast reduction are especially common in the cosplay industry.
Although I am not planning on having plastic surgery anytime soon to look more like Anna, Merida or Cinderella, it’s really fun to see what professional cosplayers are doing to look just like their favorite characters! If you’re looking to alter your appearance with cosmetic surgery, be sure to find an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon!
