Simple Dish Ideas for Valentines Day*

On Valentines day, some people love nothing more than the idea of slaving away in the kitchen to create a slap up meal for the other half but some couples just don’t like to do that, the idea of wasting valuable time with their loved one by being in the kitchen just doesn’t appeal. But say you just don’t have the money to go out, but you still want to eat SOMETHING why not pick a simple dish you can both pull together as a couple.

Here are a few of my suggestions;

Antipasti Board
I love Antipasti and it requires pretty much no work and tastes so good. And you can cater it to anyone be them veggie or non. I love when it’s all served together on a big board and you can just help yourself. Some of my favourite things to include on an antipasti board are cheese, the more varieties the better but I particularly love brie and Camembert. Humus, especially the caramelized onion kind. Prosciutto, my favourite kind of dry cured meat and finally some kind of crusty fresh bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Oh and don’t forget the prosecco!

Mexican Feast
Mexican food is definitely my favourite kind of food, and it’s perfect for sharing. Not only that but it’s so quick and easy to put together and looks fab all laid out for everyone to help themselves. You have your dips, sour cream, salsa and guacamole, your wraps and tacos, your toppings like cheese, corn, rich and fresh tomatoes, and then your meats. My favourite is sliced chicken, or shredded pork, ground beef works well too. Then everyone can help themselves. Or you can go with topped nachos, throw everything in a dish, heat it for a minute in the microwave and you’re done! It’s so easy to make good Mexican at home and so little can look like a feast when you’re helping yourselves.

Maybe you could make a jug of margaritas to go with it?

Homemade Pizza
Whether you make the base yourself or not, making your own pizza is so much healthier than ordering one in, and probably a lot cheaper too if you’re used to something like Dominos. This is also the best way to please everyone. As my date for Valentines day is usually Little Miss I do make my own base and she enjoys the process, then topping the pizza with whatever she fancies. I know from experience it’s fun for both adults and children so encourage your other half to get involved! It honestly doesn’t take long and I promise it tastes twice as good when you’re the one making it.

Relax while it’s cooking with a bottle of wine.

However you’re celebrating Valentines day, and whatever you choose to eat, the only thing you really need is the people you love, then anything can taste good (well unless you burn it!)
