Creating a Blog Logo with Logo Joy*

Once upon a time I used to go to events (what, me, socialise? I know, it’s shocking) so I had a business card. Back then I didn’t really need it, I was studying accountancy at college and I wasn’t earning from my blog, just doing it for fun. Oh, how times have changed. In the past year I’ve been working hard on becoming an established writer in the blogging community and now I earn at least half my income a month from my blog, yet my business cards are no more. If I’m planning to get serious I really need to invest in some. And to make some business cards I really need a logo that reflects both the kind of writing I do, and my blog as a whole.

I was invited by Logo Joy to try their fantastic software which helps you design a simplistic yet stylish logo that’s customisable and perfect for taking your blogging business  to the next level. It’s perfect for those who aren’t so artistically minded or cannot afford to pay for a graphic designer. Not only that but at the end you can download your logo in so many different formats making it easy to use on all types of publications from PDF to creating you business cards.

It’s was so simple to create and I’ve taken some screenshots to give you an idea of the process. Lets get started;

The first page you’ll see asks for your company as well as giving your some links to basic info like how it works, the pricing and a video so you know what you’re getting into. I had a quick look at the inspiration page but I already had an idea of what I wanted before even started and I was hoping that the software would help me create just that. I entered “Cocktails in Teacups” and clicked just started. It asked me to sign up which I did using my email address but you can use one form of social media if you’re not into filling in the form.

So the software knows the sort of thing you’re looking for you have to pick 5 of more previously created logos as a form of inspiration. I picked one with a font I liked, one with a colour scheme, one with the positioning and two more similar ones in hope that it would give a good idea of what I was looking for. Then you pick a colour scheme. I had no idea how this would work but continuing through you can see just how simply it all comes together.

Next you enter what you want your caption or slogan to be, it suggests the shorter the better but I decided to go with what I use as a tag line for my blog, the four main principals  write about, Disney, Life, Travel and Parenting. Having seen the finished logo I think it looks great under Cocktails in Teacups and really explains what I’m all about. Although it does suggest shortening, go with your gut and what you think is best.

Next you have to pick 5 symbols that best represent your blog or your business. I first searched for families and disappointingly most of them had a mother and father so I searched for mother and daughter instead. I was happy to see loads of options so I selected one. Then I searched for a tea cup, followed by a cocktail, a passport and finally a suitcase. I felt all these icons represented my blog content and I loved the fact they were so simplistic they could mean a multitude of different things.

Next you can select a logo from a set of pre-made logos. They use different fonts, icons and colours in their pre-made logos and it’s up to you to choose one you can work with and tweak to make it your own. I went with this style as I loved the symbol they used, it sums LM and I up perfectly. I fiddled with the font and colouring until I was happy enough to save it.

Finally you can save and share it.. and here is my finished logo that I can’t wait to pop on business cards;

I’m all about being minimalistic so I went for a white background I really think it makes everything else stand out. I’m really impressed.

Over all, I think Logo Joy is some fantastic software with a nice range of packages to suit all pockets for creating a usable logo for your business, especially if you’re not that great with graphics. It was simple and straight forward to use, there were loads of options to customise and the end look is professional.
