How Much Should I Feed My Cat?*

If you’ve been following along with my blog and social media for a few years, you’ll know one of my pride and joys is my beautiful fur baby, Elsa Arya. I adopted Elsa in November 2014 after wanting a pet cat for as long as I could remember. It was love at first sight and I can’t even put into words just how much I love her. She’s in a way, an emotional support pet without the title as she helps with my insomnia and anxiety by simply being there. She’s a Blue Point Ragdoll with the sweetest temperament. Both LM and I adore her.

As this is my first time owning a cat I’m always trying to learn more about keeping them as a pet and giving Elsa the best life possible. Although in comparison to owning a dog or even a fish, cats are relatively easy to keep happy. They’re okay with their own company, they don’t need walked in all weathers, they use a litter tray and as long as you keep on top of their yearly vet appointments, have some where for them to scratch and feed them properly, they should live a long and happy life.

Speaking of feeding them properly, it can be hard to know exactly what to feed them and how much to ensure they’re having a healthy balanced diet. You get bombarded with so much information from various sources and then of course some cats can be incredibly picky. For example, my mum’s cat will only eat certain wet food and turns her nose up at anything in jelly. Then my sister’s cat hates all dry food except one. Trying to keep their likes and dislikes in mind, while ensuring they’re getting everything they need from their food to stay healthy can be a mine field.

Thankfully Whiskas has put together a very informative (and cute) video with some information on exactly what and how much you should feed your cat.

Did you know that indoor cats are more likely to become overweight than outdoor cats? Elsa is an indoor cat so I need to ensure I keep an eye on my portion control as she won’t have anywhere to run off any excess weight. I’m happy to say according to the Whiskas guidelines i’m giving Elsa the exact amount of food she should be having, plus a few treats thrown in here and there to keep her happy, her teeth healthy and coat glossy.

If you love your pet, you should ensure you give them the correct amount and type of food per day as an over weight cat can suffer long term health issues which isn’t fair on them, or your bank balance as vet bills aren’t cheap! Elsa is as much my baby as Little Miss and knowing I’m looking after her properly is of utmost importance to me.

This post is a collaboration with Whiskas, but all thoughts are my own. Check out their website and their KIT hub for more information on how much you should feed your cat and their Youtube video for fantastic KIT videos.
