4 Ways to Take the Stress Out of Moving*

There is no denying that moving house is stressful. It’s probably up there as one of the most stressful times of a persons life, especially if they’re buying. But once all the papers are through and keys exchanged you have the act of moving in itself to face. Whether you have one day or one week to move, you will find it exhausting but here are four ways in which you can reduce the stress of moving into a new home, and perhaps even enjoy the process!

Ask for Help
Don’t think you have to face this monumental task alone, utilise social media! Post a shout out to your friends and family on Facebook and find out who’s free on your moving day. You know the saying many hands make light work? That applies here. The more people you have to help you, the easier and faster the process will be. Give everyone a job at the beginning of the day and ask them to stick with it, this will avoid the additional stress of having to micromanage so many people. Every time I’ve moved I’ve always asked for help, be it my parents, Godparents, Aunts, Uncles, friends, new room mates and I’ve never once regretted it. At the end of the day, once all the heavy work is done you can shut the door of your new house and take your time with the boxes.

Hire Movers
If finding friends or family to help you move is proving difficult for some reason, perhaps you’re moving a fair distance away or your moving day is during the week, consider hiring professional movers from local companies. Efficient domestic removal companies earn their living through helping people move house. They know exactly what to do to have a stress free move. Clear Out Before You Pack
My favourite moving tip ever was from a woman I used to work with before I had LM. She told me to clear out before you even pack and that way you don’t take things you don’t need. This means when it comes to moving you have less boxes and when you’re unpacking you only have what you wanted to take to your new house. Lets face it, your bins will already be filled with other rubbish from the move, you don’t need to clog them up with stuff you won’t be using!

Take it Slowly (if you can)
Not everyone has this luxury, especially if you’re in a dreaded chain and you need to move on the same day as everyone else. But if you do have the time to move at a slow space, say you are moving out of your parents house, or you have a few weeks of paid up rent before you need to hand in your keys, I say do it. It’s probably the least stressful way to move. Pick a room to move each day and go at your own speed.

Personally, I love the excitement of moving but I know it’s not the case for everyone else. Hopefully this post will help you get on the top of your moving stress as much as you can so it doesn’t end up a massive headache!
